Radiesse®

Radiesse is a volumizing filler that smooths moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, such as the smile lines between the nose and mouth, and restores lost volume. Unlike creams and lotions, you see the results right away, and Radiesse keeps working by helping your body build its own collagen.

How Radiesse works

Radiesse is made of tiny, smooth calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. Calcium hydroxylapatite is similar to minerals naturally found in the body.

It works in two ways. The gel provides immediate volume to lift and smooth lines. Over the following weeks, as the gel is absorbed, the microspheres act as a scaffold that stimulates your own collagen, so results look natural and last.

Why choose Radiesse

  • Immediate results with no waiting period
  • Long-lasting: results last a year or more in many patients
  • Natural-looking, because it builds your own collagen
  • Structure and lift: ideal for deeper folds and contouring
  • Hands, too: restores volume to the back of aging hands
Where it works

Treatment areas

Facial volume loss shows up in several places around the mouth and chin. Radiesse can be used to address each of them.

  1. Smile lines

Also called nasolabial folds, these creases run from the side of the nose to the corners of the mouth. They form as the face loses volume and elasticity, and can make you look tired or older than you feel.

  2. Marionette lines

Lines that run straight down from the corners of the mouth. They deepen as volume below the mouth is lost and can give the face a sad expression.

  3. Corners of the mouth

Also called the oral commissures. They can turn downward with age, which can look like a frown even when you're relaxed, and often deepens marionette lines.

  4. Pre-jowl area

The hollow on either side of the chin. As the surrounding skin sags with age, this area can sink in and break up a smooth jawline.

  5. Chin wrinkle

A horizontal crease across the chin that forms gradually with volume loss and can distract from your smile.

  6. Back of the hands

With age, hands lose volume, and veins and tendons become more visible. Radiesse is FDA-approved to restore a fuller, smoother look to the back of the hands.

Frequently asked questions

How is Radiesse different from hyaluronic acid fillers?

Hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvéderm and Belotero mainly add volume and hydration. Radiesse adds volume and also stimulates your own collagen, and it's thicker, so it's especially good for structure and deeper folds. HA fillers can be dissolved if needed; Radiesse can't be dissolved the same way, which is one reason an experienced injector matters.

How long does Radiesse last?

Results last a year or more in many patients, thanks to the collagen it helps your body produce.

Can Radiesse be used in the lips?

No. Radiesse isn't used in the lips. For lip enhancement, a soft hyaluronic acid filler is the right choice.

Are there side effects?

Common side effects are temporary swelling, redness, tenderness, bruising and itching. Small bumps can occasionally occur. As with all fillers, rare but serious complications, including accidental injection into a blood vessel, are possible, which is why treatment should always be done by an experienced medical provider.
